Good oral health is an important part of our well-being
Various studies show a link between inflammation in the mouth and general health problems. More than 600 species of bacteria live in our mouths. Some of them can enter the bloodstream and cause damage: cardiovascular problems, diabetes, respiratory diseases, joint inflammation, risk of premature birth.
Dental care is part of basic medical care. Regular dental hygiene and periodic check-ups are therefore the key to good dental health and a healthy smile. Smiling extends life expectancy, reduces stress and has a positive impact on others. A healthy smile gives you confidence and well-being in your daily work and personal life.
Regular dental check-ups will help to detect any problems that may affect the health of your teeth and gums at an early stage.
We recommend an annual visit to screen, monitor and treat any problems.
Adent Dental Clinics offer all routine dental treatments for adults and children in one place:
- root canal treatments
- broken tooth fillings

Our dental hygienists help you to put in place personalised prevention and can recommend many cleaning aids (brushes, toothpicks, floss, etc.).
Cavities: prevention is better than treatment
The main causes of cavities are a sugary diet, inadequate oral care or a deficient immune system. If left untreated, the cavity will grow and reach the dentine (the layer under the enamel) or the nerve of the tooth. Pain may be felt, especially with hot, cold or sweet foods. The larger the cavity is, the greater the pain. Dental X-rays taken at regular check-ups can identify signs of early decay.
How can a cavity be treated?
Cavity treatment is a very common form of general dentistry. Cavities on the surface of the tooth enamel are treated with simple fillings that are the same colour as your tooth. In the case of deeper decay, root canal treatment and a dental crown may sometimes be necessary. Tooth extraction is only necessary in the case of very advanced decay that affects the deep tissues of the tooth. We can of course provide an anaesthetic.
Root treatment
Root treatment involves removing the infected, damaged or dead nerve of your tooth. The heart of the tooth contains the nerves and blood vessels. They allow the tooth to grow. Bacteria that enter your tooth through cavities, cracks or damaged fillings cause an abscess to form. This abscess is caused by infection of the dental pulp. In this case, the pulp must be removed.
The advantage of root canal treatment is that you can keep your tooth rather than having it extracted. By keeping your natural tooth, you prevent the other teeth from losing their alignment.
What happens during a root canal?
Your dentist administers a local anaesthetic and places an insulating membrane around the tooth. He or she makes a small opening in the tooth to access the root canal and the damaged pulp (heart of the tooth). Using precision instruments, he or she removes the pulp, cleans and widens the canal. The dentist fills the canal and closes the tooth with a temporary or permanent filling. The tooth is no longer sensitive to heat or cold but retains its properties. A crown and post are usually required to extend the life of the tooth.
FAQ – Root canal treatment
How long does a root canal treatment take?
Depending on the number of tooth roots, a root canal treatment takes 1 to 2 hours. Thanks to modern treatment methods, we usually perform the planned root canal treatment in one session, only very complicated cases require more sessions.
What is the procedure of root canal treatment?
First, the tooth is anesthetized and isolated from the oral cavity with a rubber dam.
The tooth is opened with a drill and the root canal entrances are exposed, the length of the root canal is measured electrometrically, inflamed and dead tissue is completely removed, all root canals are disinfected with disinfectant solutions and filled with the plastic material.
When is root canal treatment necessary?
In case of inflamed or dead tooth nerve (can be accompanied by severe discomfort or can be completely painless), in case of a deeper caries, which is already observed up to the tooth nerve (usually associated with one or some pain), after accident, in case of the tooth worn out.
Is it possible to repeat the root canal treatment that was performed a long time ago and without success?
Of course, in most cases we can repeat the root canal treatment and achieve high therapeutic success by using current modern treatment methods.
Wisdom tooth extraction
Wisdom tooth extraction is part of oral surgery as well as general dentistry. It is a surgical procedure that is regularly performed and mastered in the dental clinics of the Adent Group.
Wisdom teeth usually grow between the ages of 16 and 24. They can also be missing. They often have to be removed because they are not growing in the right direction or are “locked in” under the gums.
Due to a lack of space in the jawbone or to inappropriate positioning, wisdom teeth can cause problems: infections of the surrounding tissues and neighbouring teeth, cavities that are difficult to treat or displacement of neighbouring teeth.
Do you recommend that I have my wisdom teeth removed?
To determine the location and number of wisdom teeth present, the dentist must take a panoramic x-ray of your mouth. This will give the dentist all the information necessary to establish a possible treatment plan for the extraction of one or more wisdom teeth.
Inflammation and infections
The supporting tissues around your teeth are precious: take care of them!
Periodontitis (loosening of the teeth) is a disease that affects the supporting tissues that surround and support your tooth. The destruction of these tissues leads to mobility and then to the loss of the tooth. There are several stages of gum disease.
The initial stage is gingivitis. It affects only the gums and is characterised by inflammation: the gums bleed, are red and swollen.
Periodontal disease is the leading cause of tooth loss in adults. About 75% of adults suffer from gum problems to varying degrees during their lifetime. But, the disease can also affect young people.
What happens if the gums become inflamed?
If gingivitis is not treated, the inflammation spreads and reaches the bone. The bone surrounds your teeth and holds them in place on the jaw. If nothing is done, the bone, ligaments and all the tissues that support and surround your teeth will eventually be destroyed. This tissue destruction leads to the loss of one or more teeth. This is called periodontitis.
Loosening of the teeth (periodontitis) is a disease that affects the supporting tissues of the teeth. It must be treated by specialists called periodontists. Collaboration between the patient, the periodontologist and the dental hygienist is necessary to optimise healing. To guarantee you the best possible care, we bring all these professions together in each of the Adent dental clinics.
